Scholarships & Awards

The Ottawa Valley Music Festival (OVMF) reaches out into the community with its Scholarship, Awards and Performance Programs to reward and nurture young musicians, and to encourage a life-long interest in music.

The Karl Fick Memorial Award (Vocal, $500)

This award was established in 2007 by the Ottawa Valley Music Festival in loving memory of Karl Wesley Fick, a founding member of the OVMF Chorus. This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a participant in the Renfrew Rotary Music Festival who is a minimum of 12 years of age and has completed Grade 6 to ARCT.  It designed to recognize the promising vocal student who has put forward an outstanding effort and who best demonstrates exceptional musicianship and dedication to his/her studies, and is intended to cover expenses for continuing studies, professional tutorial fees, meals, etc. The participant must be registered in at least three vocal solo categories as well as sight-reading. Additional consideration will be given to the demonstration of versatility by participation in ensemble singing and/or any piano category. Winner will be offered opportunities for mentorship and performance with OVMF. This award is not necessarily mark related and the recipient is selected at the discretion of the adjudicator. No application required.

The Ottawa Valley Music Festival Scholarship ($500)

This award is designed to assist secondary school students who plan to pursue full-time studies in an acredited music program in a recognized post-secondary institution.
