The Reincarnation of the Ottawa Valley Music Festival

On February 25, the Ottawa-Gatineau chapter of CAMMAC unanimously agreed to create a new subcommittee — CAMMAC Ottawa Valley — that will continue the legacy of OVMF in bringing high-calibre music to the Valley. [CAMMAC is the Canadian Amateur Musicians / Musiciens Amateurs du Canada.]

Thanks to the efforts of Board members and volunteers over a period of 26 years, Ottawa Valley Music Festival presented many concerts and workshops and supported young musicians — a proud record. However, it became obvious in the past season that OVMF did not have the capacity to continue. As a consequence, we began discussions last December with CAMMAC Ottawa-Gatineau on how we might partner to realize efficiencies while continuing this tradition.

Rosalind Spencer and Michael Hoffman — OVMF’s 2018 chorus manager and stage manager — will serve as co-chairs of the new sub-committee. Plans are underway for a September 15 concert, with guest conductor Marg Stubington. The concert centerpiece will be Fauré’s Requiem along with works by Purcell, Ešenvalds and Gjeilo. On Saturday June 1, 2019, at 1:00 PM, the Ottawa Valley Music Festival will hold a final Annual General Meeting to begin the process of winding down the organization, confirming ways to continue selected scholarships, and transferring our assets. An email announcement — with location — will be sent out soon to all OVMF choristers and supporters.
